OA610: Benchmarking and Capacity Planning

Course Overview

In this training workshop, we use an open-source tool to create several synthetic workloads, observe their behavior externally and using internal database metrics, and modify our hardware configuration to keep the impact on performance.

Prerequisites

This course has the following prerequisites:

  • OF200: Diagnostics and Performance Tuning

Audience Profile

This training is for operations professionals who have completed foundation to at least OF200 and want to optimize their database infrastructure.

Learning Objectives:

  • This training workshop will arm you with the skills to determine when adding CPU, RAM, or disk IOPS will be necessary to improve the performance of your workload and whether you are spending too much on one thing or not enough on another.
  • In doing so, we learn best practices for MongoDB benchmarking and how to interpret the monitoring metrics in Atlas / Cloud Manager / Ops Manager correctly.

Content Outline

  • Simulate client workloads using POCDriver, an open-source MongoDB workload generator.
  • Identify which resource is currently limiting performance.
  • Determine how the performance of typical workloads relates to the number of available CPU cores.
  • Quantify the impact of too little RAM and estimate the required RAM for your workload.
  • Identify when disk IOPS is a bottleneck and how many are enough.
  • Identify whether a bottleneck is in the database or elsewhere and avoid wasting time looking in the wrong place for a solution.

To attend the training session, you should have operational Desktops or Laptops with the required specification and a good internet connection to access the labs.

: Technical issues are unpredictable and might occur with you as well. Participants must ensure that they have the system with the required configuration and good internet speed to access online labs.

If the problem persists or you face any challenge during the class, you can report it to us or your trainer. In that case, Radiant would provide you with the recorded session of that particular day. However, those recorded sessions are not meant only for personal consumption and NOT for distribution or any commercial use.
