FortiSwitch

Course Overview

In this course, one will learn how to deploy, provision, & manage a FortiSwitch with FortiGate using FortiLink. This course also includes the deployment and troubleshooting of Layer 2 and Layer 3 features, and the most common FortiSwitch stack topologies, covering those that leverage MCLAG ( multichassis link aggregation group) for redundancy & higher performance. One will also learn about FortiSwitch in standalone mode, its unique features, & how to manage a standalone switch directly, or from FortiSwitch Cloud.

Prerequisites

  •  Fundamental knowledge in networking
  •  Comprehending of layer 2 switching
  • Comprehending of the topics covered in the following courses:
  •  NSE 4 FortiGate Security
  •  NSE 4 FortiGate Infrastructure

Audience Profile

This course is made for networking & security professionals involved in the administration, management, configuration, and monitoring of FortiSwitch devices utilized to provide secure network access to endpoints.

Learning Objectives

After accomplishment of this course, you should be able to:

  •  Explore the FortiSwitch portfolio & identify the supported management modes
  •  Explain and deploy FortiSwitch in managed switch mode (FortiLink mode)
  •  Comprehend Ethernet switching, VLANs, link aggregation (LAG), MCLAG, and Layer 2 discovery
  •  Recognize the most common FortiSwitch topologies when deploying FortiSwitch in managed switch mode
  •  Comprehend Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), Rapid Spanning Tree protocol (RSTP), & Multiple Spanning Tree protocol (MSTP) operation & configuration, & other loop protection features
  •  Explain and configure Layer 2 security to filter unwanted traffic & perform anti spoofing
  •  Configure Layer 2 authentication utilizing 802.1.X, & leverage 802.1X to assign dynamic VLANs to endpoints
  •  Execute advanced features to enhance port density, control network access, forward multicast traffic more effectively, & quarantine compromised devices
  •  Prioritize traffic on FortiSwitch by utilizing QoS marking, queuing, & rate limiting features
  •  Simplify endpoint deployment by utilizing Link Layer Discovery Protocol-Media Endpoint Discovery (LLDP-MED)
  •  Share FortiSwitch ports across distinct VDOMs using multi-tenancy
  •  Observe FortiSwitch using SNMP, sFlow, and flow sampling
  •  Explain the most useful troubleshooting tools available on FortiSwitch
