FAQs

Q: Is Windows Server 2016 the same as Windows 10?

A: Windows 10 and Server 2016 look very much alike in terms of interface. Under the hood, the real difference between the two is simply that Windows 10 provides Universal Windows Platform (UWP) or “Windows Store” applications, whereas Server 2016 and so far it does not.

Q: Is Windows Server 2016 64 bit only?

A: Windows Server Essentials 2016 brings the Windows Server infrastructure to small businesses; this edition allows these organizations not to worry about complex CAL licensing requirements. System requirements: Processor: 1.4Ghz 64-bit processor.

Q: Can Windows Server 2016 Essentials be a domain controller?

A: If configured as a Domain Controller then Windows Server 2019 Essentials must be the only Domain Controller and also must run all Flexible Single Master Operations (FSMO) roles, and cannot have two-way trusts with various other Active Directory domains.

Q: Do you need CALs for Windows Server 2016 Essentials?

A: For Windows Server 2016 Essentials edition, CALs are not required. When a customer purchases a Windows Server OS license (for example Windows Server 2016 Datacenter edition) then generally they receive a license which mainly allows them to install the operating system onto the server.
